DANIEL LANE The Sun Herald May 9, 2010 World champion discus thrower Dani Samuels yesterday defeated Olympic gold medallist Stephanie Brown-Trafton in Japan to start her 2010 season on a winning note. Samuels, 21, had a shaky start to the Osaka Grand Prix with two fouls and a 60-metre result in her opening four throws. With one attempt remaining, the Sydneysider was second to in-form American Beck Breisch when she threw 63.75m to win the event. "I'm glad I was able to pull one out when under pressure," Samuels said. "The end result was good, my third best ever result, but I'm not happy with the series. I definitely need to improve on that." The victory means Samuels has maintained her undefeated record in the seven competitions she's contested this season. |
