How many medals targeted by Team GB?

UK Athletics has set the bar for 2012 at 10 medals.

Where are the chances?

It's hard to see where 10 medals will come from at the

moment unless Britain's relay teams play a blinder. Jessica Ennis and Phillips Idowu are the biggest medal bankers, with Lisa Dobriskey and Jenny Meadows also likely to challenge. Others like David Greene and William Sharman will need to step up.

Key issue internationally?

Falling attendances at international meets and falling revenues. Lamine Diack will reveal later this year if he is to seek another term as president of the International Association of Athletics Federations. Sebastian Coe is currently mulling a challenge. Something needs to change to arrest the sport's decline.

Biggest challenge domestically?

Declining membership at grassroots level, which has a knock-on on effect on the lack of strength in depth at the top. Desperate need to boost participation levels among school children and then retain them in the sport.

Three names to watch?

Jessica Ennis (medal certainty), Lisa Dobriskey (medal possible) and Jodie Williams (medal outsider but, at 16, an outstanding prospect).

Biggest international rivals?

United States and Jamaica in the sprints, Kenya and Ethiopia in the long-distance events and Russia in women's middle distance and heptathlon. Idowu would also appreciate an off day in the triple jump for Frenchman Teddy Tamgho.
